Learning Disabilities as a Major Concern among Educationists and other Stakeholders in the Education Sector

The issue of learning disabilities has become a major concern among educationists and other stakeholders in the education sector. Tutors are deliberating on how they can improve students’ learning skills. Thus various learning methods have been introduced by tutors in order to produce a crop of students with better reading and learning skills (Bender & Larkin 2008). Learning disability problems are prevalent among many students. Students exhibit these difficulties because of various reasons that influence their learning abilities. Learning disabilities such as low reading fluency have been a common problem that students face in most learning institutions (Boyle & Scanlon, 2009). Tutors have recommended the mechanism of repeated reading in order to increase the learners reading pace. Repeated reading enhances the learner’s confidence and encourages the learner to develop a special passion for reading. Reading fluency is not easily achieved as it requires practice and dedicated effort. Reading fluency enhances learning because the learner is motivated to connect his reading fluency to speaking skills. Reading fluency is normally estimated by use of word per minute mechanism in which the readers, reading speed is estimated Tutors however have noted that various factors such as academic ability, race, ethnic background, and socio economic background as the main causes of learning disabilities experienced by most learners. Tutors add that depending on the effect of the said factors learners, exhibit varied learning capacities before they achieve the desired reading fluency goals. Conclusion The learning disability problem should not be taken for granted. Stakeholders must play their roles effectively in order to achieve the objective of a learned student fraternity. This is not an easy task as it requires time and patience.

Reflection about paper review The learning disability problem has been pointed out as the number one contributor of poor academic standards in most learning institutions. Parents and teachers have been searching for new learning experiences and avenues for aiding their children acquire the best learning mechanisms (Walpole & McKenna, 2007). Those in the education sector should think of new ways of instilling learning capabilities among school kids, given the changing times that our society is experiencing. New learning techniques which are well versed with students needs should be introduced. This should not take long as the time for change is now. The education stakeholders should not assume contentious issues in order to avoid a culmination of further learning problems. The short term and long term effects of the proposed learning techniques should be carefully reviewed in order to identify the best methodology of approaching the learning problem. The learning problem should not be taken for granted because the problem could worsen if left unchecked (Rasinski, 2009). Education stakeholders should improvise new interesting learning techniques in a bid to foster the culture of reading among students. Various academic reports indicate how the idea of policy formulation could change the learning experience.
