The art subject has depicted various opinions about women as reflected in the contemporary society. The subject has highlighted various opinions about women. The subject portrays women from a practical perspective. The subject delves on both positive and negative attributes associated with women.
Famous artists and sculptors have expressed their opinions through their works. These art veterans have stated their positions in regard to women in the presentation of their works. Women have been portrayed as weak and lesser human beings who have no place in the current society. Women have been put on the receiving end in terms of their roles in society. The artistic expressions that imply the above illustrate in shapes and images the respective feminine traits.
Other art works and shapes depict the woman as a sex object. The woman is perceived to be a weak human being whose role is conforming to the sexual needs and desires of their male counterpart. The erotic qualities associated with women are clearly brought out. The woman’s image appears as if to suggest that she cannot make decisions on her behalf. The artistic images depict a defenceless female character who clings to the males for sexual and other sensual satisfactions. The woman is displayed as an individual who has been secluded to a place which she cannot free herself. She is seen to be filled with sorrow and grief.
The woman is also used as a decorative aspect. The trend is common in furniture work. The woman is seen as a beautiful and charming human being whose beauty can be applied in finished products to make their final appearance even better. The images depict that a woman’s beauty should be highly valued. This is a representation of how a man was rated by the society- how well he maintained his woman. The woman’s beauty has been widely accepted by the male counterparts and they have expressed their appreciation by symbolising beautiful women on their art works.
In other instances the woman is portrayed by the images as one evil person who brought untold misery and problems to the man. The artists and sculptors in this case have designed images which show the evil nature of the woman. The woman is seen as the source of all forms of evil. The artists and sculptors have further added other features which allude to this fact. A good example is the Art noveau woman who was essentially two faced representing the dichotomy between good and evil.
In addition, other artists have used their works to express the psychological nature of women. The artists have perfected this by using various body features which express different motions. These body adjustments assist the artists to bring out the psychological behaviour of women.
Publication significance
The world has experienced various changes that have changed the human relations either for the worst or for the better. The artistic world has been on an evolutionary dimension in the last couple of decades owing to the shifting human interests and goals (Howard, 1996 p. 11). The artistic products have changed a lot. Modern day artists and sculptors have generated new ideas of designing better and appealing works.
The works of the late 18th and 19th century set a precedent for modern day art and other associated acts. The works developed a strong foundation upon which art could be properly practiced. The rules and conventions initiated by past artists cannot be downplayed. A lot was done to put the industry at where it is currently (Sembach, 2002 p.15).
Despite this it should be noted that the unjust societal views such as the depiction of women as evil and sexual objects emanated from the past artistic activities. Unfortunately these chauvinistic practices were passed down to other generations. The activity of art has been viewed as a component which can be relied by the people of a given affiliation for inspirational purposes. Art has been used to identify certain people’s viewpoints and the bending of these viewpoints results to conflicting scenarios. It should be noted that art has had a myriad of negative impacts on the society and industry stakeholders are watching closely for any reasonable changes. More is expected from the art fraternity. The industry must ensure that what it portrays about our current society unites the people rather divide the latter.
However art must be commended for bringing the interests and commitments of different individuals together by bringing to the fore matters that concern them.
