Author Arendt refers to superfluity as a condition in which an individual amasses excessive resources in a selfish and uncouth manner. Arendt implies that superfluity comes as a result of totalitarianism which involves assuming authoritative and subjective form of leadership that suppresses the freedom of the led. Arendt implies superfluity as a scenario where resources are only concentrated among a selected few. This brings negative impacts such as poverty- a direct effect of constrained resources and inequality.
 Arendt perceives superfluity as a mechanism of wasting resources because the trickle effects of the hijacked resources does not reach a big chunk of the population. Superfluity in this context means an embarrassment of riches. The author tries to send a simple message. If anyone is interested in acquiring resources, let him or her do so via the right means.
The author regards superfluity as a mechanism engineered by few individuals in the society whose impact cuts across the entire societal divide. Superfluity in addition, has made the survival of the common man harder by the day. This has created a scenario in the modern society in which every person scrambles for limited resources. This brings in, myriad problems and conflicts in the midst, of a country’s population.

Loneliness is a condition in which an individual lives a solitary life in all aspects of his life whether mentally, socially and economically. Loneliness is a form of daily existence by human beings in which an individual feels a gap growing between self and the rest of the people surrounding him or her. Arendt states that loneliness promotes totalitarianism because; individuals caught in the loneliness snare often find themselves imposing harsh and unfair leadership values to their subjects. This is because lonely people find imposing authoritative leadership to subjects, as the best option to express their concerns and other personal scores that they settle with their subjects.
We can test the author’s hypothesis because various evident examples clearly attest to this. Scientists claim that silent and lonely individuals always become authoritative whenever they assume leadership positions. This is because quiet people deliberate a lot of issues within their inner self. Unfortunately, because of their personality condition they do not involve other people in spelling out or discussing the concepts they have conceived. Thus, silent people use these untried and untested policy mechanisms on their subjects when they get hold of power. In most cases, this leads to totalitarian form of leadership.
There is an antidote to despair because lonely people can be positively influenced to share their views and ideas with other experts and close associates. This opens up communication channels, a vital resource in effecting better and effective leadership.
Mass suicides can be averted because positively influencing leaders makes them to conform to the realities of democracy and better leadership. Treating and handling such kind of leaders, has become a reality in the modern contemporary society, thanks to the increased number of counseling and psychological experts.
The author looks at this concept from a philosophical point of view because a closer look and analysis of the connection between loneliness and autocratic leadership is more than meets the eye. Philosophical approach to this controversial and sensitive topic is seen as the only way out this deadlock. Experts contend that autocratic leadership has been on the decline in most societies. This has been accelerated by democratization of societies and recognition of human rights. Success has been dominant in the western world as compared to the rest of the world. Unfortunately the trend is yet to be phased out in most countries in other parts of the world.
The author uses the philosophical approach because philosophy is seen as the best way to closely connect and link various ideologies. These connections give various findings, which facilitate the, making of various conclusions. This in effect assists in a deeper understanding of the emerging issues and, how to counteract them.

This subject of totalitarianism and loneliness involves other issues and factors that greatly define and shape the final concept of the latter. In analyzing these issues, extra care should be exercised when making decisions because raising less viable ideas promotes diversion from the main objective of understanding the concept of totalitarianism.
In a nutshell, the question of leadership has been a direct outcome of an individual’s character and the decisions made. This has been directed to the people being led. All these factors have manipulated various societal dimensions. In addition to various environmental factors which bring about positive and negative changes, adjustments are called for in the process of leadership to keep the authorities in check.
